Guide VERON des Champagnes 2013
(around 21 Euros per bottle)
Situated
in Bergères-les-Vertus for four generations, Eric Vigier cultivates a vineyard
of 2 hectares and 60 ares (equal to 6,000 hectares) in the Côte des Blancs, following
the traditional method.
Original
and luxurious looking. White bottle, bright, with autumnal colours.
Appearance :
·
Pale gold
·
Fine perlage
·
Subtle and persistent bead
·
Crystal clear
Nose :
·
Mouth-watering and alluring elegance
·
Fresh citrus fruits, a signature of Chardonnay, the
sole vine of the Cuvée, combined with scents of butter and pastries,
expressions of the great maturity of this Champagne obtained with lengthy
ageing sur lattes (3 years) of the bottles before disgorgement
·
The nose then reveals great complexity, with base of
apple, pear, hazelnut, walnut and white flowers, bolstered a delicate vanilla
and roasted hint, the result of the
alcoholic fermentation and ageing for 6 months in oak for 5 years
Palate :
·
Steady attack, fresh and mineral at the same time,
thanks to the timely stop of the malolactic fermentation, then leaving room for
a rich balance creamy and fondant-like at the same time, an expression of the
old vineyards (over 50 years old) meticulously selected in the noble terroir of Avize (50%) and
Bergères-les-Vertus (50%) where the grapes are obtained
·
Silky effervescence
· Great length on the palate
With
this Cuvée Automnale Blanc de blancs aged in barrels, the producer Eric Vigier presents
a superb interpretation of the 2008 vintage, the sole year of harvest of this cuvée,
which should merit the title of millésimée,
vintage.
Drink
as an aperitif, or during a meal in good company with seafood.
