Guide VERON des Champagnes 2012
(around 51 euros per bottle)
Benoit
and Mélanie Tarlant, 12th generation, who settled in Oeuilly in the heart of
the Valley of the Marne on a 14 hectares vineyard have been making every endeavour
to carry on the work of craft vintner so as to better bring to fame the
diversity of the Estate soils.
The sober and original presentation
of this Champagne is a real success.
Appearance :
- Intense gold
- Numerous and fine bubbles
- Luminous
Aroma :
- One is intrigued straightaway by its singular fullness and
intensity
- Aroma of stewed apple and pear peppered with sensuous overtones of
honey, beeswax and caramel
- The nose then develops towards brioche and buns which is the sign
of a great maturity obtained by a long ageing on lath
- Patience is rewarded at last by a delicate woodiness marked by spices.
Taste :
- Uncommon strength and magnitude, hearty and unctuous marked by
pepper, impressive and unusual for a Blanc de Blancs. It is enlived with a
discreet oakiness obtained by a transition in wood and a well-mastered
winter stirring
- Mineral and deliciously acidulous finale, still on spices (pepper,
curry) made possible by a low dosage at the disgorging (2 g/L of sugar)
and a judicious stuck of the malolactic fermentation
- Exceptional length on the palate.
The vigne d’Antan of the Tarlant
Champagne, stemming from Chardonnay « franc de pied », is perhaps
transmitting us the characters of the pre-phyllloxera Champagnes. This
Champagne of character discloses for sure a strong, inimitable, touching and
unforgettable personality. It rewards the genuine approach of its maker, Benoit
Tarlant.
A Champagne to be tasted during the meal with poultry or why not red meat.
