Guide VERON des Champagnes 2012
(around
38 euros per bottle)
The René Geoffroy Champagne,
maker-vintner has settled in Aÿ since short. He has been carrying on the
Champagne tradition on his 13 hectares vineyard rooted in Cumières in the
valley of the Marne since the 17TH century.
The presentation of this Champagne
is original, feminine, modern and festive. The flask carries a label which has
been specially created by Karine Geoffroy.
Appearance :
- Copper-pink, luminous
- Intense and refined sparkling
- Fine bubbles
- Persistent Cordon
Aroma :
- It appeals straightaway to the taster with its
intensity and sensuousness
- Open anthology of red fruits (blackcurrant, raspberry, morello cherry, fruits of the wood) peppered with delicate overtones of rose, hazelnut and citrus (grapefruit, orange). This is the result of the vinification by bleeding according to a unique and innovative process which consists in a short maceration (2days and a half) of the 60% of Pinot Noir and 40% of Chardonnay in the same tank.
Taste :
- Frank, honest and mineral attack, obtained thanks to the judicious
stuck of the malolactic fermentation and to the extra brut dosage (only 4
g/L of sugar added at the disgorging)
- Nice, sensuous and fleshly presence on red fruits and citrus, consistent
with the nose
- Finale deliciously bitter and slightly acid
- Outstanding length on the palate.
This Blending Extra Brut Blanc de
Rose, an unlikely marriage of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, is a great reward for
its maker, Jean-Baptist Geoffroy. His approach to viti-viniculture can be
qualified of responsible and daring.
Ideal for the aperitif, it will happily accompany your red fruits desserts or the pink biscuits of Reims or why not a Chablis soused salmon.
