Mythical
Champagne
Established in 1836, the Maison Pommery is a very
definite part of French Champagne history. Its success was inspired by Louise
Pommery, a widow of the descendants who built the famous Domaine Pommery which
was completed in 1888. Covering 50 hectares and located in the heart of Reims,
the Pommery brand joined the group of Vranken-Pommery in 2002.
This champagne created in 1979 in honor of Louise Pommery is a blending that is subtle and sober, yet luxuriously presented in bottle endowed with a pewter cap
Appearance :
- Pale Gold
hue
- Delicately
and finely bubbled
- Tight and
persistent cordon
- Clear and bright
Aroma :
- Mature and inviting, this Champagne immediately
elicits a rare pleasure resulting from the exceptional quality of the
grape harvested during the initial harvests of 1999 which were not
catalyzed by the addition of sugar.
- Rich inviting overtones of brioche, bun and caramel
subtly toasted and roasted attest to the outstanding maturity of this Champagne
coupled with the success of it long ageing on lath. The process of
fermentation through a yeast autolysed and patented in the secret cellars
of Pommery, 30 meters underground, add further to the intrigue of this
blend.
- Slowly the nose appreciates an enjoyable complexity of honey, apricot and dry grapes complemented with fine tinges of blond tobacco and candied citrus fruits.
Taste :
Pure and mineral with its attack on the
palate. An unexpected vivaciousness for a Champagne of this age, and no doubt
thanks to the
rigorous selection of first grapes at
the time of pressing and the expression of the 60% of Chardonnay from the
prestigious land of Avize and Cramant Grands Crus
- The palate is then rewarded with a remarkable
firmness and roundness thanks to the 40% Pinot Noir from Aÿ Grand Cru
- Enduring endlessly on the palate
This Cuvee Louise 1999 with its surprising balance between fullness and tension is a testament to the potential of the 1999 vintage, an amazing year with harsh weather conditions. A remarkable product from the skills and talents of Thierry Gasco, Pommery Champagne Cellar Chief.
A champagne to be savored for special occasions, as an aperitif it can stand alone or be a complement to a meal of scallop carpaccio with truffles or a Champagne bar fish.
