Guide VERON des Champagnes 2012
(around
61 euros per bottle)
The House Pol Roger which was founded in 1849
is proud of its independence. It vinifies Champagnes of quality in its 86
hectares vineyard located in the best soils of the Epernay Valley and of the
Blancs Hillside.
The presentation of this Champagne is traditional and
luxurious.
Appearance :
- Intense gold
- Numerous and fine bubbles
- Refined
and persistent Cordon.
Aroma :
- Subtle first nose, on honey, beeswax and gingerbread peppered with
a touch of blond tobacco
- The nose then develops towards nice, hearty and sensuous overtones
of brioche, caramel, grilled almond and roasted,, expression of the great
maturity of this Champagne obtained by a long ageing on lath (7 years)
perfectly mastered by the Cellar Chief of the Pol Roger Champagne,
Dominique Petit
- Patience is rewarded by the appearance of a delicate aroma of candied citrus.
Taste :
- Round, greedy and sensuous, concentrated but all in harmony and
unexpected for a Blanc de Blancs. It
strokes the mouth.
- Slightly acid finale on citrus
- Outstanding length on the palate.
The uncommon generosity of this Brut
Blanc de Blancs Vintage 1999 makes it a Champagne of exception depicted by the
year 1999 and the Grands Crus of the Blancs Hillside from which the grapes are
originated. It brings high the colors of the Pol Roger Champagne.
To be served for the aperitif together with a foie gras fried with a Xeres raspberry vinegar or along your festive meals together with a fish or shellfish.
