Guide VERON des Champagnes 2013
(around 33 Euros per bottle)
Situated in the Côte des Blancs since 1892 on the fabulous terroir of Mesnil sur Oger, the Champagne House of Guy Charlemagne produces Champagnes with great expression, starting from the grapes obtained exclusively from its 15 hectares of vineyard.
Original and neat looking.
Appearance
:
·
Pale yellow
·
Fine, delicate perlage
·
Subtle and persistent bead
·
Bright and limpid
Nose :
·
Elegant and delicious
·
The first nose reveals aromas of butter,
combined with notes of citrus fruits (lemon, clementine, grapefruit), good
expression of the Chardonnay, sole vine of the Cuvée, originating from the
noble terroir of Mesnil sur Oger, in the Côte des Blancs
·
The bouquet then reveals notes of roasted
coffee, toasted, enriched with honey, beeswax and spices, slight hint of
vanilla, the result of vinification of 30% base wines in oak barrels
Palate
:
·
Gentle opening, swiftly reached by a tonic
and mineral liveliness, the result of a timely stopped malolactic fermentation
of the 70% base wines
·
Faint effervescence, almost ethereal
·
The palate then expresses a enveloping and
fondant-like roundness, the result of lengthy ageing sur lattes and
ripeness of the grapes harvested in 2004
·
The finish on the palate is characterised
by a delicious bitterness, reminiscent of grapefruit
·
Good length on the palate
This Mesnillésime 2004 – Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs from
the Champagne House of Guy Charlemagne delivers a wonderful image of the expert
know-how of Philippe Charlemagne, the producer.
A particularly fine aperitif, with
salmon canapés, or why not, during a meal with seafood.
