Guide VERON des Champagnes 2012
(around 20 euros per bottle)
The
House Guy Charlemagne located in the Côte des Blancs on the fantastic terroir
of Mesnil sur Oger has been vinifying since 1892 a Champagne of high expression
from grapes exclusively originated from his 15 hectares vineyard.
The presentation of this Champagne is traditional and
luxurious.
Appearance :
- Light yellow with green
flashes
- Luminous
- Festive sparkling with fine
bubbles
- Fine and persistent Cordon
Aroma :
- Complex, of the utmost sharpness and elegance
- Scents of grapefruit pulp and fresh lemon prevail on first nose
- The nose then discloses fine overtones of fresh butter, almond and
hazelnut peppered with brioche and toast tinges which express the great
maturity of this Champagne. This is the result of an ageing on lath (two
to three years) perfectly mastered by Philippe Charlemagne, its maker.
- Patience is then quickly rewarded by the unexpected appearance of subtle
overtones of cocoa.
Taste :
- Fresh attack on minerality, expression of the Mesnil sur Oger soils
thanks to a dosage judiciously low (8g/L of sugar)
- The mouth then develops towards an unexpected balance between
vividness and creamy roundness, almost fleshly
- One can find again the citrus accompanied with pear and stewed
apple
- Endless finale, deliciously acidulous.
This blending Réserve Brut can be
qualified as a tremendous learning experience full of singular emotions. It
rewards the talent of the Champagne Guy Charlemagne for the responsible
viti-viniculture approach he implemented.
This champagne is particularly appreciated for the aperitif but it can also happily accompany fish and seafood dishes.
