Guide VERON des Champagnes 2012
(around
25 euros per bottle)
The House Godmé, located in Verzenay, in the
heart of the Reims Mountain runs a 11,5 hectares vineyard. It has been carrying
on the Champagne tradition for five generations.
The successful presentation of this Champagne in a
flask decorated with the family coat of arm is sober and elegant.
Appearance :
- Yellow with green reflections
- Numerous and festive bubbles
- Closed-in and persistent Cordon
Aroma :
- Charming, all in elegance, sharpness and
complexity, it calls to mind the Chardonnay, exclusive grape variety of
the blending
- First nose on butter, citrus, walnut and white flowers, quickly strengthened
by nice overtones of brioche and buns, expression of a great maturity
obtained by a long ageing on lath
- Patience is rewarded by the appearance of a discreet woodiness with a delicious touch of vanilla and toast, result of the vinification and then of the maturing of the basis wines in Burgundy barrels during 6 months.
Taste :
- Frank and mineral attack, result of
a low dosage (6 g/L of sugar added at the disgorging) and of a
judicious stuck of the the malolactic fermentation
- The mouth then discloses an unlikely balance between the
concentration –expression of old vineyards (over 40 years) from which the
grapes are originated- and the tension.
- One can find again the spices, citrus and the well-measured
woodiness mentioned above in the Nose part
- Very good length on the palate.
With this blending Les Alouettes
Saint Bets-Vintage 2004, Hugues Godmé, its maker, promises a Champagne of a
genuine personality depicted by the year 2004 where the Chardonnay and the Pinot Noir
terroir of Bets in Villers-Marmery meet. It rewards
the House Godmé which has started a conversion process to the biological and
biodynamic viticulture.
To be served for the aperitif or why not to accompany a seafood dish.
