Guide VERON des Champagnes 2013
(around 41 Euros per bottle)
Located in Ludes on a wine estate covering 9.5
hectares, in the heart of the mountains of Reims, the Champagne House of Bérêche
et Fils, with a love for the traditional values of vineyard farming handed down
from generation to generation, has produced Champagne since 1847, following the
family motto « with austerity, heart and sweat »…
The look is
simple and well devised.
Appearance :
·
Pale gold
·
Fine perlage
·
Subtle and persistent bead
·
Limpid
Nose :
·
Full and structured, swiftly captivating the taster
with its remarkable complexity, probably resulting from ageing the base wines
in demi-muids, oak barrels that old around. 600L, following the réserve
perpétuelle method in which the oldest wines (1985) are replaced with wines of
that year
·
A captivating opening with aromas of candied citrus
fruit and apricot, combined with delicate notes of white flowers as a third of
the blend is Chardonnay, it is therefore lavish with intense aromas of red and
black fruits (raspberry, blackcurrant and blackberry) and cherry liqueur, a
wonderful expression of the Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier (a third of each)
·
The nose then reveals great maturity, with heady spicy
notes (pepper, cinnamon), butter, brioche, roasted coffee, toasted bread and
caramel, thanks to lengthy ageing sur lattes of the bottles
traditionally sealed with a cork stopper
·
Then revealing an unexpected lightness, floral almost
minty
Palate :
·
A gentle, generous attack, swiftly invigorated by a
refreshing liveliness, obtained by the unplanned malolactic fermentation, but
which often occurs to old reserve wines, and an intentionally low dosage of
sugar, 5g/L added after disgorgement
·
An intense and amazing minerality that lingers
throughout the tasting, thanks to skilful, consistent and environmentally
friendly wine growing favouring deep rooting of the vine
·
Mouth-watering, deliciously acidulous finish with
aromas of apple, pear and exotic fruits
· Good length on the palate
