Guide VERON des Champagnes 2013
(around 15 Euros per bottle)
Located in Baye, the Jacques family cultivates 3 champenois varietals (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier) since 1932 on a vineyard area covering 17 hectares, following the region’s traditional method.
A modern and luxurious look.
Appearance :
·
Intense gold
·
Abundant and fine perlage
·
Persistent bead
· Bright
Nose :
·
Fresh and complex, with immediate delicious sensations
·
Initial dominance of red fruits (strawberry,
raspberry, blackcurrant, blackberry, ...), expressed by the majority of black
grapes in the blending, with 50% Pinot Meunier cultivated in the terroir
of Troissy and 30% Pinot Noir from Baye
·
Elegant notes of citrus fruits (lemon, grapefruit,
...) thanks to the 20% Chardonnay from the vineyard in Sézanne
· The nose then reveals good maturity, complex, with notes of brioche, butter, caramel, nougat, honey, beeswax, spiced bread, combined with pepper and cinnamon, thanks to a happy combination of base wines from several grape harvests (mainly 2003, then 2004 and 2005) and above all to the lengthy ageing sur lattes of the bottles before disgorgement
Palate :
·
Deliciously tasty, smooth and generous, delightfully
acidulous
·
Gentle effervescence
·
Finish with scents of honey, candied apple and pear,
apricot and raisin
· Good length on the palate
