Guide VERON des Champagnes 2015
(approximately 54 euros
a bottle)
The Champagne house created in 1849
by Pol Roger and marked by 20 years of friendship between Sir Winston Churchill
and Odette Pol Roger (1945-1965), perpetuates at Epernay its excellent
tradition and independence since 5 generations. It relies on its 86-hectare
vineyard, which represents half of its supply, to craft and market all over the
world Champagnes of a rare quality.
Luxurious and sober bottle, adorned
with the English royal coat of arms, emblem of the brand.
Visual Aspect:
·
Golden and bright.
·
Very fine, distinguished bubbles.
·
Discreet bead of bubbles.
Nose:
·
Moving,
it reveals straightaway an surprising balance between complexity and intensity,
maybe the result of the careful clarification at 6°C, before alcoholic
fermentation at 18°C.
·
Accomplished
maturity, thanks to 7 years of ageing on laths of the bottles, before riddling and
disgorgement, in the deep cellars (33 meters) of the house, with sensual nuances
of Viennese pastries and honey.
·
Aromas of apricot and raisins, roasted almond and hazelnut, of apple and
pear compote, slightly mentholated, with a hint of citrus peel, expressions of
the Chardonnay (40%).
Palate:
·
Remarkable
breadth as from the first sip, supported by the controlled powerfulness of the
dominant Pinot Noir (60%).
·
Delightful minerality, inimitable imprint of 20 Grand and
First Crus of the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs, carefully
selected, then vinified separately before blending.
- The finish shows a beautiful presence, delicately spicy (pepper and
grooves), backed a silky effervescence.
- Rare length in mouth.
With this confidentiel Brut Vintage 2004, endowed with a big personality, Dominique Petit, cellar master of the Champagne Pol Roger, managed to set all its enological talent in the service of this great year 2004.
To enjoy during agastronomic
meal, with a supreme of guinea fowl and sweet bread with cep sauce, for
example.
