Guide VERON des Champagnes 2015
(approximately 126 euros a bottle)
Mythical Champagne
Acquired in 2005 by Pernod-Ricard, the Champagne Perrier-Jouët, born in
1811 from the union of Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Adèle Jouët, relies on its
65-hectare vineyard to develop and market yearly 3 million bottles of quality Champagnes.
Suggestive name and magnificent bottle, symbolic, decorated with
harmonious anemones in the Art Nouveau style, symbols of a philosophy,
considered extravagant in 1969, when the cuvee created in 1964 was launched.
Visual Aspect:
·
Pale gold.
·
Very fine bubbles
·
Discreet and persistent bead of bubbles
Nose:
·
Moving
and sensual.
·
At
first marked by a very elegant Chardonnay (50%) with aromas of apple and pear
compote, of crystallized citrus, white flowers and mint.
·
The
nose then becomes generous, blooming, expressing the maturity of the Champagne obtained
with 5 years of ageing on laths of the bottles before disgorgement, with scents
of Viennese pastries, phrased with scents of coffee.
·
Later, the
black grape varieties (45% of Pinot Noir and 5% of Pinot Meunier) reveal on
beautiful notes of red berries (strawberry, blackcurrant and raspberry), then
of delicate spices (pepper and cinnamon).
Palate:
·
Pure
first taste, backed by an invigorating minerality, a signature of 10 carefully
selected terroirs, with for the greater part the crus of Cramant, Aÿ, Mailly-Champagne
and Dizy.
·
The
palate then becomes fleshy, livened up by a sophisticated effervescence, thanks
to the judicious realization of the malolactic fermentation of the base wines
and to the adjusted dosage with 8 g/L of sugar added at disgorgement.
·
Outstanding length on the palate.
Hervé Deschamps, the cellar master of the Champagne Perrier-Jouët set all his enological talent in the service of this cuvee Belle Epoque 2006, to find the difficult balance between maturity and promising youth and offer us an outstanding Champagne.
To enjoy for the aperitif, or during the meal, with a tartar of langoustines.
