Champagne Napoléon – Millésime 2000 Brut

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2015

(approximately 45 euros a bottle)

Settled in Vertus, in the Côte des Blancs, the Champagne Napoléon, created in 1907, unites seven wine growers' families today. It relies on its vineyard of 120 hectares, mainly planted with Chardonnay, to craft and market quality Champagnes.

Sober and traditional presentation

Visual aspect:

·        Golden and gleaming.

·        Fine bubbles.

·        Refined bead of bubbles, persistent after service.

Nose:

·        Delicious, it carries us away in its scented, warm and moving universe.

·        Cheering aromas of honey, beeswax, Viennese pastries and marzipan, expressions of the accomplished maturity of the cuvee, result of 12 years of ageing on laths of the bottles, with a patient autolysis of the fermentation yeasts.

·        Then the nose reveals a sensual balance between the Chardonnay (50%), with its shades of apple and pear compote, almond and chestnut, apricot and raisins, slightly salty and mentholated, and the Pinot Noir (50%), with its generous scents of plum, chrystallised strawberry and kirsh.

Palate:

·        Pure first taste.

·        Then the palate becomes broad and caressing, with a delicate and touching minerality.

·        Sweet and onctuous sparkling.

·        Well-balanced finish, surprising mix between the coating warmth, almost fleshy, and vividness, punctuated with a hint of pepper.

·        Remarkable length on the palate.

With this Millésime 2000 Brut, Jean-Philippe Moulin, œnologist, managing director and cellar master of the Champagne Napoleon, signs a high-endChampagne, an interpretation inspired by the year 2000.

Ideal to match with gastronomic meals, with a foie gras and quince, for example.
