Guide VERON des Champagnes 2013
(around 18 Euros per bottle)
Winemakers in Passy-sur-Marne in the heart of the Marne Valley for more than three generations, the Champagne House of Lequeux-Mercier practises responsible wine growing, with a vineyard of 7 hectares consisting of three champenois varietals: a majority of Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
A traditional and neat look.
Appearance :
· Intense gold
· Fine perlage
· Delicate bead of
bubbles
· Bright
Nose :
· Enveloping and
structured, brightening immediately with its great complexity
· Wonderful maturity
with tempting notes of honey, beeswax and spiced bread,
alternating with toasted aromas of caramel and roasted coffee thanks to autolysis of the prise de mousse
yeasts during lengthy ageing sur
lattes
· Aromas of damson
and cherry liqueur, expressed by the 50% Pinot Noir,
combined with notes of candied citrus fruits, apple and pear compote thanks to the 50% Chardonnay
Palate :
·
Initially smooth and delicate, gradually invigorated
by a sweet freshness obtained by carefully selecting the first run wines (cuvée)
during grape pressing
·
Again revealing the complexity perceived at the nose, together
with a silky effervescence
·
Deliciously acidulous and spicy finish (pepper,
cinnamon)
· Good length on the palate
Great value for money, this Millésime 2000 from the Champagne House of Lequeux-Mercier rewards the savoir-faire of its producer Michel Lequeux-Mercier. It delivers a wonderful image of the beautiful southern facing terroir of Passy-sur-Marne.
Drink as an
aperitif with salmon canapés, or during a meal to accompany rabbit chasseur.
