Guide VERON des Champagnes 2013
(approx. 18 Euros per bottle)
Located in Verzenay for over 3 generations, in the heart of the Mountains of Reims, on a vineyard of 5.5 hectares, the Champagne House of Duval-Charpentier produces and sells around 25,000 bottles of Champagne per year since 1994, obtained exclusively from Pinot Noir of the Grand Cru of Verzenay, with systematic blocking of the malolactic fermentation.
Traditional
and neat presentation, predominantly grey, Well-designed bottle.
Appearance :
·
Intense golden yellow
·
Fine perlage
·
Subtle bead of bubbles
·
Limpid and bright
Nose :
·
Complex and delightful, perhaps thanks to the very low
addition of sulphites during production
· Scents of fresh red fruits : strawberry,
raspberry, plum and sour cherry, a beautiful expression of the Pinot Noir, sole
varietal of the cuvée, obtained from the wonderful Grand Cru terroir
of Verzenay
·
Delicate notes of honey, pastries, almond and
marzipan, combined with hints of blond tobacco, the result of ageing sur
lattes of the bottles for 3 years, before disgorgement
Palate :
· Pure attack, full of tension, with beautiful
minerality, dynamic, obtained by carefully blocking the malolactic fermentation
during vinification of the base wines
·
Great substance and density, strengthened by a
delicious freshness, with hints of green apple
·
Reveals the red fruits already perceived at the nose
·
Gentle and creamy finish, emphasised harmoniously by
the effervescence, probably due to a pertinent dosage, with 8g/L of sugar added
at disgorgement, in the form of grape sugar
·
Great length on the palate
Obtained from the superb year of 2008, the Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru of the Champagne House of Duval-Charpentier is both delicious and sophisticated, revealing strong character and testimony of the true savoir-faire of its producer, Arnaud Duval.
Drink as an aperitif with mascarpone and salmon verrines, or why not, during a meal with pan-fried scallops with tarragon.
