Guide VERON des Champagnes 2015
(approximately 45 euros
a bottle)
Family Champagne house founded in 1851, the Champagne Charles Heidsieck,
taken over by the Descours family in 2011 at the same time than Piper
Heidsieck, is now managed by Cécile Bonnefond, who relies on her vineyard of 30
hectares located at Ambonnay, Bouzy and Oger, to pursue the work of visionary
Charles-Camille Heidsieck, its founder.
Sober and luxurious presentation. Bottle with long and fine neck, with a rounded shape, intended to represent the brand and inspired by the shape of the house’s chalk cellars.
Visual aspect:
·
Deep golden colour.
·
Extremely fine bubbles.
·
Refined ring of bubbles.
Nose:
·
Powerful and warm.
·
The scents succeed
one each another and mingle in a harmonious and inspired aromatic partition.
·
Aromas of caramel,
honey, Viennese pastries and roasted coffee, expressions of the accomplished maturity
of the cuvee, thanks to 3 years of ageing on laths of the bottles at a temperature
of 10°C (dates of cellaring and disgorgement indicated on the back label), but
maybe especially by the long maturing of the reserve wines (10 years on
average), in barrels and one fine lees.
·
Shades of
apple, pear, citrus, apricot, grapes, with a hint of red fruits.
Palate:
·
Well-balanced and unctuous, supported by a particular
minerality, dense and fresh, translation of 60 carefully selected crus.
·
Creamy sparkling.
·
We find the grilled notes and the spices of the nose.
·
Impressive length on the palate.
With this Brut
Réserve launched again in 2012, Thierry Roset, the cellar master of the Champagne
Charles Heidsieck, managed to compose the ideal blend, with 60% of wines from 2007 (a third
of each of the three great Champagne grape varieties) and 40% of reserve wine (50%
Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir), to find the inimitable style of the house.
To taste during festive
meals, to match with a venison stew with green curry and lemongrass, for
example.
