Champagne Lanson – Noble Cuvée Blanc de Blancs Millésimé 2000

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2016

(around 105 euros per bottle)

Champagne mythique

Sober and bright bottle, adorned with the inescapable Maltese cross.

Aspect :

·        Golden and crystal clear.

·        Extremely fine bubbles.

·        Delicate bead of bubbles.

Nose :

·        Captivating, it discreetly unveils an endless aromatic universe, heightened by the long period between the disgorgement and the marketing.

·        Sensual aromas of caramel, cocoa and roasted coffee, expressions of the well defined maturity of the cuvée, result of 12 years of ageing on laths of the bottles before disgorgement.

·        The Chardonnay, exclusive varietal, is timidly revealed, reserved, with its scents of apple and pear compote, citrus fruits, grilled almond and hazelnut, underlined by a touch of exotic fruits.

Bouche :

·        Pure opening, enhanced by the life-giving minerality, characteristic sign of the Grands Crus of Avize and Cramant in the Côte des Blancs, highlighted by the timely stop of the malolactic fermentation of the base wines.

·        Then the mouth becomes more intense, languorous, thanks to the generous dosage, with 10 g/L of sugar added at disgorgement.

·        Fabulous length on the palate.

With this Noble Cuvée Blanc de Blancs Millésimé 2000, Jean-Paul Gandon, Chef de Cave of the Champagne House Lanson since 1986, and Hervé Dantan, his successor in 2014, were able to compose an exceptional cuvée.

To taste from aperitif to meal, to accompany prawns cooked by steaming with fleur de sel from Camargue, for example.

Founded in 1760, the Champagne House Lanson put its dynamism in the service of its perpetual quest of the perfection : Hervé Dantan, new Chef de Cave of the House, orchestrates in 2015 an unprecedented modernization of the production tool, with the creation of a new fermenting room and a wood winery, of which the barrels are reserved for the Lanson Clos. A majority of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the intentional stop of the malolactic fermentation, in accordance with the oenological history of Champagne, give birth to Champagnes with inimitable style.
