Guide VERON des Champagnes 2015
(Approximately 26 euros a bottle)
Wine
grower in Mesnil-sur-Oger, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs since 1892, the Champagne
Guy Charlemagne relies on his 15-hectare vineyard, essentially located in the
Grand Crus of Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger and mainly planted with Chardonnay (87%),
to develop approximately 130,000 bottles of highly expressive Champagnes every
year, of which 70% are exported.
Traditional
and luxurious presentation. Numbered bottles (tasted: nr. 1081).
Visual Aspect:
·
White gold.
·
Particularly fine
bubbles.
·
Elegant
string of bubbles, persisting in the flute after the service.
Nose:
·
Blooming,
very fine and subtle.
·
Scents
of citrus, very ripe apple and pear, almond, hazelnut, apricot and grape,
delicately iodized and mentholated, signatures of the Chardonnay, the exclusive
grape variety of the cuvée.
·
The
Champagne then reveals its maturity with notes of brioche and Viennese pastries,
thanks to 4 years of ageing on laths of the bottles before disgorgement, with
autolysis of the bottle fermentation yeasts.
Palate:
·
Pure
first taste, thanks to the rigorous selection of the first juices during the
soft pressing of the grapes, and to the adjusted dosage, with only 6 g/L of
sugar added at disgorgement.
·
Delicate
minerality, expression of the best plots of the domain (Chétillon, Coullemets,
Vaucherots, Mont-Joly, Aillerand du midi…) chosen in the Grand Crus of
Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger.
·
The
palate then becomes smooth and sensual, supported by the festive effervescence.
·
The
finish is punctuated with spices.
·
Great
length.
