Guide VERON des Champagnes 2015
(approximately
19 euros)
Set up in 1951 in Villers-Franqueux, north of Reims, in the heart of Massif de Saint-Thierry, the cave of the six hillsides relies on its 154 hectare vineyard, planted with three grape varieties from the Champagne region, cultivated with care by 130 wine growers, to elaborate and market festive champagnes of great quality, under the brand Charles Heston.
Original and crisp presentation.
Visual
aspect :
- Golden.
- Dynamic effervescence.
- Fine bubbles.
- Discreet and persistent bead.
Nose :
- Blossomed, particularly intense and blessed with
an amazing complexity.
- Clean taste of ripen red fruits, delightful
(strawberry, raspberry, plum, cherry and blackcurrant), assorted with
delicious exotic fruits (mango, kiwi and apricot),signatures of the black
grape varieties (60% of pinot meunier and 40% of pinot noir).
- Then the champagne expresses its rising maturity, with warm notes of caramel. Honey and toasted hazelnuts.
Palate :
- Dense and lively attack, served by a tonic and
refreshing effervescence.
- Great minerality, coming from the unique imprint
of the clayey-muddy-sandy soils of the beautiful massif of Saint-Thierry,
exclusive harvest of grapes from 2009 (60%) and from the two previous
years (40% of reserve wines)
- We find again the red fruits mentionned in the
nose.
- Generous and ample finish, with a touch of honey,
maybe thanks to the judicious realisation of the malolactic fermentation
on the base wines and to the generous dosage of added sugar during
disgorgement, suported by delicate spices.
- Great length in the mouth.
With this cuvee l'Agat, Valerie Charbonnier, cellar master of champagne Charles Heston, gives us a beautiful blended champagne blanc de noirs, balanced and engaging.
To enjoy during the aperitif and during a festive meal between friends,
to accompany veal kidneys with wild mushrooms, for example.
