Champagne Lamiable – Extra Brut Grand Cru

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2016

(around 17 euros per bottle)

Sober and luxurious presentation.

Aspect :

·        Golden and bright.
·        Fine and dynamic bubbles.
·        Fine and persistent bead of foam.

Nose :

·        Radiant, it initially develops a remarkable complexity.
·        Aromas of red fruits compote, punctuated by soft spices, signature of the Pinot Noir (60%).
·        Later, the Chardonnay (40%) is revealed with some sensual scents of candied citrus fruits, apple, pear and hazelnut, supported by the maturity of the Champagne obtained by 3 years of ageing on laths of the bottles, before disgorgement, in the cellars of the House dug by Pierre and Auguste Lamiable, creators of the House.

Palate :

·        Touching balance, between the freshness allowed by the selection of the first juices (cuvée) during the very slow pressing of the grapes and the low dosage, with only 4 g/L of sugar added at disgorgement, and the tasty generosity, result of the perfect ripeness of the grapes harvested by hand in a very old plot (around 70 years old) of which the vines come from the mass selection (selection of the best vine stock of the wine estate by the wine grower).
·        Warm and mineral finish.
·        Great length on the palate.

With this Extra Brut Grand Cru, Ophélie Lapie-Lamiable, its producer, was able to blend two thirds of base wines from 2011 with one third of reserve wines from a continuous blending, to offer us an extremely rare cuvée 100% from the Grand Cru of Tours-sur-Marne.

To taste during meals among friends, with a lobster and its braised fennel, for example.

Settled in Tours-sur-Marne since 1955, now managed by Orianne and Ophélie, third generation of wine growers, the Champagne House Lamiable perpetuates the family tradition. A vineyard of 6 hectares almost exclusively established in the terroir of Tours-sur-Marne (only 10 ares in Bouzy), cultivated in a continuing effort to reduce the environmental footprint, and a gentle oenology allow to produce and market 70,000 bottles of highly expressive Champagnes each year.
