Champagne Charles Collin – Extra Brut

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2016

(around 27 euros per bottle)

Original and neat bottle, dressed in red and gold.

Aspect :

·        Golden and bright.
·        Very fine bubbles.
·        Refined bead of bubbles, persistent after service of the flute.

Nose :

·        Charming and complex, source of intense pleasure.
·        Initially marked by the majority of Pinot Noir (85%), with tasty aromas of red and black fruits (strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, blackcurrant and red currant), punctuated by delicate notes of spices (vanilla, cinnamon and liquorice).
·        Later, the scents of citrus fruits, apple, white flowers, almond and hazelnut, barely mentholated, signatures of the Chardonnay (15%), harmoniously come to mingle with fragrances of honey, caramel and coffee, translations of the maturity of the cuvée obtained by a long ageing on laths of the bottles (3 years) before disgorgement.

Palate :

·        Straight and fresh attack, allowed by the adjusted dosage with only 4 g/L of sugar added at disgorgement, underlined by the joyful minerality, a characteristic sign of the soils of Essoyes and Fontette.
·        The mouth becomes dense, smooth and silky, perhaps thanks to the judicious fulfillment of the malolactic fermentation.
·        Sensual and tasty finish.
·        Great length on the palate.

For this cuvée Extra Brut, Guillaume Cartier, Chef de Cave of the Champagne House Charles Collin, was able to compose an inspired blending with 80% of base wines from 2010 and 20% of reserve wines from 2008 and 2009, to offer us a true interpretation of the terroir of the Côte des Bar.

To taste from aperitif to meal, with a spit roasted Bresse poultry, for example.

Created in 1952, the Champagne House Charles Collin gathers 140 passionate wine growers from the Côte des Bar. A vineyard of 330 hectares planted with 90% of Pinot Noir and 10% of Chardonnay, a production potential of 3 million bottles per year and a controlled oenology, with long ageing on laths of the bottles before marketing, lead to the development of a range of high quality Champagnes.
