Guide VERON des Champagnes 2017
(around 22 euros per bottle)
Sober and bright bottle, predominantly silver coloured.
Aspect:
White gold, coupled with subtle green glints.
Very fine bubbles, refined.
Elegant bead of bubbles, persistent.
Nose:
Radiant, it slowly reveals its generous sensuality.
Apple, pear and citrus fruits harmoniously mingle with the delicate scents of white flowers and exotic fruits, graceful expressions of the Chardonnay, exclusive varietal of the cuvée, punctuated by improbable hints of spices.
The well defined maturity is then unveiled with its gentle notes of honey and pastries, result of 3 years of ageing on laths of the bottles before disgorgement.
Palate:
Pure attack, obtained by the rigorous selection of the first juices (cuvée) during the soft pressing of the grapes, enhanced by the vibrant minerality of the Premiers Crus of Rilly-la-Montagne (50%) and Taissy (50%).
The mouth then becomes deep and smooth, perhaps thanks to the judicious fulfillment of the malolactic fermentation of the base wines.
Creamy effervescence.
Deliciously acidulous finish.
Very good length on the palate.
Patrick Manceaux put his talent of producer in the service of his touching Brut Blanc de Blancs, inspired combination of three vintages (50% from 2011, 40% from 2010 and 10% from 2009), highlighted by an adjusted dosage with 6 g/L of sugar added at disgorgement.
To taste during festive meals, with crusty filets of red mullet, for example.
Currently directed by Agnès and her brother Patrick Manceaux, the Champagne House Roger Manceaux tries hard to enhance the noble terroirs of its vineyard of 12 hectares, spread over the Grands Crus and Premier Crus of the Mountain of Reims. The three champenois varietals (Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier), cultivated in the greatest respect of the environment (Haute Valeur Environnementale level 3 and sustainable viticulture of Champagne certification), harvested by hand and vinified with love, in the deep respect of the champenois traditions, enable to produce around 90,000 bottles of highly expressive Champagnes per year.
