Guide VERON des Champagnes 2017
(around
17 euros per bottle)
Original and luxurious presentation.
Aspect:
Pale
gold, bright.
Fine
bubbles, eminent.
Fine
bead of foam, persistent after service.
Nose:
Intense
and complex, it immediately provides beautiful feelings.
Radiant
maturity, with its gourmet scents of honey and pastries, evolving towards cocoa
and roasted coffee, result of 6 years of ageing on laths of the bottles, before
disgorgement.
The
black varietals, with a third of Pinot Noir and a third of Meunier, then take
us into a perfumed whirl of red and black fruits, coupled with delicate spices,
before giving way to the Chardonnay (a third), with its perfumes of apple, pear
and candied citrus fruits supported by an iodized and mentholated breath.
Palate:
Neat
attack, with a joyful, definitely due to the selection of the first juices (cuvée), purer, and to the minimalist
dosage, with only 6 g/L of sugar added at disgorgement with traditional
expedition liqueur.
The
mouth is then revealed warm and deep, almost structured, thanks to the
fulfillment of the malolactic fermentation of the base wines, enhanced by a
delicious minerality and a gentle effervescence.
Melting
finish, punctuated by spices.
Remarkable
length on the palate.
Laurent Mehlinger, wine grower-oenologist, has produced this Cuvée Brut
Millésimé 2008, without cooling or filtration, to offer us a touching
interpretation of the Côte des Bar terroir.
Ideal
from aperitif to meal, with a roasted drum, for example.
Established
in Lignol-le-Château, in the Côte des Bar, for 3 generations, the Champagne
House Mehlinger et Fils is now directed by Laurent Mehlinger. A selection of
the best grapes of its vineyard of 10.5 hectares certified Terra Vitis since
2013, composed of 70% of Pinot Noir, 15% of Meunier and 15% of Chardonnay,
vinified in small volumes and with a low dosage of SO2, gives birth
to around 20,000 bottles per year of great quality Champagnes.
