Guide VERON des Champagnes 2017
(around 65 euros per bottle)
Inimitable presentation, refined and luxurious.
Aspect:
Pale
gold, crystal clear.
Rare
finesse of bubbles.
Pearls
of effervescence as a necklace.
Nose:
Flavoured
melody, between sensuality and emotion.
Initially
dominated by the Chardonnay (80%) carefully selected in the Grands Crus terroirs of the Côte des Blancs (Le
Mesnil-sur-Oger, completed by Chouilly), with its scents of nice ripe apple and
pear, supported by an iodized and mentholated breath.
Aromas
of red and black fruits, coupled with a spark of spices, signatures of the
Pinot Noir (20%) from the Grand Cru of Verzenay, enhanced by the well defined maturity
of the cuvée obtained by 5 years of ageing on laths of the bottles, before
disgorgement.
Palate:
Heady
purity thanks to the conscientious selection of the first juices (cuvée), during the pressing of the
grapes, to the timely stop of the malolactic fermentation of 50 % of the base
wines (of Chardonnay), and to the adjusted dosage with only 2.5 g/L of sugar
added at disgorgement.
The
mouth then blossoms, supported by reserved woody notes, result of the passage
of 10% of the base wines in 3 years old 600L demi-muids, for 6 months.
Tasty
and mineral finish.
Remarkable
length on the palate.
Christophe
Pitois, oenologist and assistant director of the Champagne House Lombard, was
able to compose the inspired blending of terroirs,
with a preference for his home terroir,
Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, and years with 90% of wines from 2009 and 10% of wines from
2008, to sign a great Champagne.
To
taste during festive meals, with a medley of squab and watercress, for example.
Loyal
to the values handed down by its founder, Robert Andrieu, in 1925, the
Champagne House Lombard has been continuing with dynamism its pursuit of
excellence, under the guidance of Thierry Lombard. A vineyard of 120 hectares
and an accurate and creative oenology, with rigorous selection of the terroirs and parcelled vinifications,
allow to produce a range of high level Champagnes, recently expanded with the
Tanagra collection.
