Sélection Guide VERON des Champagnes 2017
(around 20 euros per bottle)
Luxurious bottle, with an original label predominantly
silver coloured. Original cap.
Aspect:
Pale
gold, crystal-clear.
Particularly
fine bubbles, definitely the result of the ageing on laths of the bottles (3
years), before disgorgement.
Pearls
of bubbles, elegant and scattered, persistent on the periphery of the flute.
Nose:
Generous,
thanks to the respect of long periods between dosage and marketing.
Aromas
of nice ripe red and black fruits, coupled with notes of cherry liqueur and
punctuated by spices (liquorice and cinnamon), touching signatures of the Pinot
Noir, exclusive varietal of the Champagne.
Patience
is rewarded by the appearance of improbable scents of honey, beeswax and
pastries.
Palate:
Dense
and deep at the opening, enhanced by a life-giving tension and vibrant
minerality.
The
mouth becomes caress, soft and warm, supported by the creamy effervescence.
Tasty
finish, deliciously acidulous, definitely thanks to the selection of the first
juices during the pressing of the grapes (tête
de cuvée) and to the timely stop of the malolactic fermentation of the base
wines.
Great
length on the palate.
With
this cuvée Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru,
Arnaud Duval, its producer, offers us a seductive interpretation of the Grand
Cru of Verzenay, exclusive origin of the grapes carefully harvested by hand in
2011.
To
taste from aperitif to meal, to accompany a whole stuffed capon, for example.
Dynamic young wine
grower, Arnaud Duval put his talent in the service of his vineyard of 5.5
hectares to perpetuate the family tradition of the Champagne House
Duval-Charpentier since 1994. A rigorous selection of the Pinot Noir from the
oldest plots (planted in 1950) of the Grand Cru of Verzenay and a gentle and
accurate oenology, with systematic blocking of the malolactic fermentation of
the base wines, allow him to produce and market around 15,000 bottles of
Champagne with personality per year.
