Guide VERON des Champagnes 2018
(around 130
euros per bottle)
Mythical Champagne
Inimitable bottle.
Aspect:
Pale gold.
Fine bubbles.
Fine bead of foam,
persistent.
Nose:
Sensual, endless and
touching universe, thanks to the long period (6 months) between disgorgement
and marketing.
The joyful aromas of red
and black fruits, punctuated by spices, signatures of the Pinot Noir (45%)
ripened in Aÿ, Bouzy and Verzy, gently embrace the touches of citrus fruits
underlined by a mentholated breath, expressions of the Chardonnay (55%) chosen
in Chouilly, Cramant and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.
Later, the maturity of
the Champagne House, obtained by 10 years of ageing on laths of the bottles
before disgorgement, is revealed with its fragrances of cocoa and roasted
coffee.
Palate:
Vertiginous purity, at
the opening, obtained by the selection of the first juices during the pressing
of the grapes, enhanced by the timely stop of the malolactic fermentation of
the base wines and by the adjusted dosage, with only 5 g/L of sugar added at
disgorgement.
Exceptional presence,
excited by the magnificent tension, characteristic sign of the minerality of
the Grands Crus terroirs.
Silky finish.
Interminable length on
the palate.
This fabulous cuvée CELEBRIS Vintage 2004 Extra-Brut
illustrates the full extent of the expertise of Jean-Pierre Mareigner, its
creator who disappeared too soon, cellar master of the House for 33 years and
of Odilon de Varine, his worthy successor, who were able to combine the
nobility of the Grands Crus terroirs
and the elegance of the year 2004.
To taste from aperitif
to meal, to accompany a veal filet mignon and almonds, for example.
Since the foundation of
the Champagne House Gosset to Aÿ in 1584, 17 generations have succeeded one
another to perpetuate with passion the House values, gathered by the charter of
excellence. Oldest Champagne House, certified « Living Heritage Company », it
implements a traditional and accurate œnology to compose around 1 million
bottles of Champagnes per year and to impose its style in 80 countries on 5
continents.
