Guide VERON des Champagnes 2018
(around 18
euros per bottle)
Sober and neat
presentation. Original back label, decorated with a vine leaf, emblem of the
House, which reddens when tasting temperature is reached.
Aspect:
Dense gold.
Refined effervescence.
Fine bead of foam,
persistent.
Nose:
Sensual and heady
harmony.
Aromas of apple, pear
and citrus fruits nice ripe, underlined by the exotic fruits, highlighted by a
life-giving breath, iodized and mentholated, signatures of the Chardonnay,
exclusive varietal of the Champagne.
The maturity is then
slowly revealed with notes of honey and pastries, subtly roasted, result of 8
years of patient ageing on laths of the bottles before riddling and
disgorgement.
Palate:
Brilliant opening,
driven by the bright minerality of the terroir
of Vaudemange, which shares with 2 other Crus of the Mountain of Reims the name
of white pearl, because of the original preponderance of the Chardonnay.
The mouth becomes deep
and caressing, reinforced by the accurate dosage with 9 g/L of sugar added at
disgorgement.
Deliciously bitter and
acidulous finish, punctuated by delicate spices.
Remarkable length on the
palate.
For this reserved Blanc
de Blancs 2008 (3,300 bottles), Guillaume Francart, its producer, was able to
select, in 2008, a marc from his most beautiful Chardonnays (a press of 4,000
kg of grapes), on a plot of Vaudemange, to offer us a touching, classy and
generous Champagne.
To taste from aperitif
to meal, with a mullet carpaccio and sea urchins, for example.
Fifth generation of wine
growers, the Champagne House Francart & Fils equipped itself in 2017 with a
reception hall and guest rooms to perpetuate with passion the family champenois traditions of welcome and
friendliness. It cultivates with care its vineyard of 8.5 hectares mostly
planted with Chardonnay, mainly in Vaudemange, Premier Cru of the Mountain of
Reims, to compose each year around 36,000 bottles of Champagnes with
personality.
