Guide VERON des Champagnes 2019
(around 35 euros per bottle)
Sober and bright bottle, decorated with the new logo of
the brand composed of a guitar neck and a pick, references to Arnaud Duval’s
passion.
Aspect:
Golden.
Fine effervescence.
Delicate bead of foam.
Nose:
Generous and endless aromatic farandole.
Radiant maturity with scents of gingerbread,
pastries, cocoa and roasted coffee, characteristic sign of the autolysis of the
prise de mousse yeasts in bottles for
seven years, before riddling and disgorgement.
Later, the Pinot Noir, harvested by hand in
2008 in six plots well-exposed at mid-slope of the Verzenay Grand Cru, above «
la Barbarie » lane in the locality which ancients called « les fins
lieux », unveils its harmony of red and black fruits, barely spicy.
Palate:
The outstanding liveliness of the opening,
reinforced by the judicious selection of the first juices during the pressing
of the grapes (cuvée) and by the
absence of dosage (no sugar added at disgorgement), slowly steps aside to give
way to a sensual caress.
Deliciously acidulous finish, highlighted by
the chalky minerality.
Fabulous length on the palate.
For
this Blanc de Noirs - Extra Brut, Arnaud Duval was able to impose a long period
between disgorgement without addition of sulfites and marketing, to let burst
out all the vitality of this exceptional champagne.
To
taste from aperitif to meal, ideally at 12°C, with a veal medallion Rossini and
almonds, for example.
Heir
of five generations of wine growers, Arnaud Duval, assisted by his companion
Claire, now affirms his style and his inventiveness composing each year around
15,000 bottles of well-defined champagnes. Resolutely settled in the terroir of Verzenay, Grand Cru of the
north of the Mountain of Reims, he selects the best Pinot Noir grapes of his
5.5 hectares vineyard, which are vinified with talent in his new fermenting
room in Sillery, without malolactic fermentation, to reveal all their richness.
